MARKING TIME
THE STATE COAL MINE STRIKE,
[Pee. United Peess Association.]
GREYMOUTH, November 27.
Mailers in connection with the strike at the State mine arc being kept very quiet. At the State mine township everything is quiet, but it is well known that the miners are working to gain additional power to force their claims on the Government. When approached for news the miners s-tale that they are playing a waiting game, and expect the Government to make an early move. One of the influential members of the Miners’ Executive is reported to have visited Brunner, Blackball, and Paparoa, and addressed the miners, with the object of getting them to come out. From what can be learned, the representative received a very cold reception at Brunner, the men deciding that they were content to continue work.
At Blackball things are not so bright. There is a strong feeling in favor of the State miners, and it is freely rumored that the Blackball miners will cense work to-morrow.
At Paparoa it is said that the men are in sympathy, and prepared to lay down their tools on Monday. The Stale miners state that they will not give way, and will show the Government that they have power to enforce their claims. _The secretary of the Wharf Laborers' Union informed a representative of the ‘Grey Eiver Argus’ that the wharf labor ers would not assist the miners, as thej had no sympathy with the strike. If one can judge from the genera; opinion, all the miners on the Coast, with the exception of Brunner, will be out early next- week.
