GIRLS’ PEACE SCOUT MOVEMENT
The weekly meeting of the Girl Scouts was held in the rooms of the Y.W.C.A., Moray place, on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance* of enthusiastic, interested girls, and, a most instructive lesson in elementary drill was given hy Captain Wolstenholme, to whom a very hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was extended. Several new members were enrolled, and arrangements made for til* Saturday afternoon outing, which is always, made as enjoyable and instructive as possible. while the fact that “ discipline ” forma one of tho most important factors of success is never lost sight of. Last Saturday the Karitane Homo was visited, and, through the courtesy of tho matron and nunses, a most enjoyable afternoon waa spent with the babies, this forming the first practical lesson in the care of infants. Tho many evidences of practical sympathy shown by the generous offers of help and instruction almost daily received are very encouraging to the promoters of the movement, and are also indicative of the interest with which it is regarded hy the public. Mr J. Duffy, of this City (late principal of the Accrington School of Physical Culture, and a member of the Lancashire Physical Education Council), has generously offered the battalion a short course in breathing lessons, physical exercises, and jiu-jitsu, while. Mrs T. W. Barron, who holds high testimonials from the management of the Glasgow Corporation Baths, has, with like generosity, promised a course, of lessons in swimming later on. Other plans await funds for development. The work of organising is going steadily forward with gratifying results. Every caro is exercised by the officers (Misses M’Goorgc. M. Reynolds, and C. Keilar) in forming tho different patrols, friends being, as far as possible, grouped together, while every effort is made to guard, while developing. tho physical health of the girls. There is room in the work for energetic, earnest scout mistresses, and offers of help in this direction will bo, gladly received by the organising secretary. Through the courtesy of the Y.W.C.A. tho meetings will in future be held in their hall, and all interested (young and old) arc invited to attend on Wednesday evenings at 7.15 sharp.
