.168 BODIES FOUND. A TANGLED MASS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, November 25. One hundred and sixty-eight bodies were found in the Cherry mine in a great tangled mass, blocking the staircase leading from ihe third lo the second coal vein. The men’s escape had been blocked by falling debris,'and they had succumbed to black-darap while endeavoring to push through tho obstructions. ihe victims had evidently been alive for days. Two wooden fans had been made and affixed to the shaft wall, toeing turned by hand hi a frantic effort to brush back the black-damp. One miner was found firmly gripping the fan. Tho victims left notes written on pieces of slate. THE FHIE SPREADING. NEW YORK, November 25. (Received November 26, at 8.25 a.m.) Ihe Cherry mine is again closed, and the firo in the galleries is spreading.
