NOTES BY “ONLOOKER.” Notts is weak in bowling, Wass being their best man in this department. The first match of the 1905 team was played at Crystal Palace against the Gentlemen of England, and ended in a draw. Australia made 270 and 526 (Noble, 152) against 156 and 129 for three wickets. Tue next, engagement was against- Notts, their present opponents, and again a draw resulted. Australia- made 288 and 254 for four wickets (declared closed) against 219 and 257 for four wickets by the County of Laces. Singularly enough Jones and Armsiiong made centuries in this match, the Victorian making 112 in his first strike and 56 (not out), while the county captain compiled 72 and 105. Trumper was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, and scored 61 in the second. Bardsley lias quickly given a taste of his batting qualities, but Ransford was dismissed pggmptly, he, Carter, and O’Comnor being disposed of leg before. It is satisfactory to know that Trumper showed brilliant form after starting tamely, and that Armstrong compiled his century in flawless fashion. The next engagement is against Northampton, beginning on "Monday.
