ALIPUR CONSPIRATORS SENTENCED. THE JUDGE'S COMMENTS. ■ Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. CALCUTTA, May 7. Baren, Arabindi Ghose's' brother, who confessed, and Butt, who prepared the "bombs in connection with the Alipur conspiracy, have been sentenced to death. In the case of others sentences of transportation for life or terms of imprisonment ranging from one to ten years were imposed. Arabinda Ghose and the rest of the accused were acquitted. The Judge held that Bwren's confessions linked up the Muzza-ffa-pnr outrage, in which Mrs and Miss Kennedy were killed, the attempts on the lives of Sir A. Fraser (Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal) and the Major of Chardamagan, with a, conspiracy for collecting arms, secret military drill, the mating of bombs, and a wide fire zone for street fighting, all of which indicated an intention to wage war against the King. PRESS COMMENTS. CALCUTTA, May 7. (Received May 8, at 8.35 a.m.) The seven Alipur prisoners who have been transported for life will probably appeal. The Indian Press are reserved in their comments. The Nationalists are delighted over Arabindo’s acquittal.
