[Pee United Pkkss Association.]
WELLINGTON, May 8. At a specially convened meeting of the C'ty Licensing Committee an application for a, wholesale license was made on behalf of Mr Avison, a storekeeper. On the Committee expressing an objection to granting licenses to premises connected with a re” tail grocery business, .Mr Menteath (solicitor) submitted that the Committee by refusing a license on such grounds, ’ was virtually creating a law, instead of administering it.. He, intimated that if the Committee persisted in their refusal lie would apply to the Supreme Court for a ruling. The Committee adhered to their decision, and refused the application.
