ST. JOHN'S CHURCH.

AXXUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the parishioners of the Church of St. John, Roslyn, was held the schoolroom last night. The p l ' u '^ nt ‘ ev - bL T. hi now) presided. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The vicar’s churchwarden (Mr W. [. Bolam), commenting oaf the balance-sheet, said that the revenue, as sot forth in the balance-sheet, was £BSB 18s 7d. This, however, did not represent the money han died during the year, for in the stahment of receipts was simply given the net summary of the summer fete in one case and the organ fund. The gross receipts of thib fete were £530. but the expenses w tie somewhat heavy, and the net result was about £204 13a cd. They had received on Joan -MOO to pay for the organ, and thev purposed increasing the loan fund to enable them to proceed with important ■works. Altogether the revenue under the different headings compared more Mm favorably with the receipts of the previous twelve months. Owing to the alteration in tl:e date of closing the books, jwrtion of the revenue was not available when thev were closed. The Vicar heartily thanked Mr Bolam for' hi.s clear and explicit statement, and for ihe invaluable work he had done. _ Air W. I. Bolam was elctcd vicar's cimichwarden. Uno Mr b. parish churchv.arden, Ihe following were elected vestrymen;-.-Messrs F. M. Allan, K. H. Allan J. R. Cameron, C. 11. Havvvard. L- L Ltiburne. J G. -Lovett, W. Tewslov, A. Warner J. S. Webb, and Goodrich. Messrs Sv. Dawson and G. G, L, Wilson were re-elected auditors. ' ' " .. - Ur *• , Hrent forwarded a letter containing receipt from the diocesan secretary for a. sum of £5 subscribed bv Mr Bren* as the beginning of a fund for the rebuildtne cnurch in brick. l\f r Brout said tnau this was a favorite idea of his. but so tar had not borne fruit. 'The time wou'cl romo when they would want to rebuild the church, and no fund would be' available. It £6O were set aside a year, it would form a very- nice nest egg for the purocse, and Jic would move that it be a recommendation to the incoming churchwardens ami vestry during.the coming year to pav to the Diocesan Trust Board the sum of : £25. to the credit, of the fund established for t*e purpose of rebuilding St. John's C. Roslyn, in brick or stone, or cnlargum the present church in brick ox stone.

Tnis was seconded..bv Air Hayward, and carried. The V icar, in making a general address on parish matters, said that, so far as he knew, there was-no .parish, in New Zealand in which so many men attended the services. This was a great thing in church work, and Ling might it continue. As Air Brent had\‘said, there was a time coming when the church would want doing up. It would want painting very shortly," and, of course, what they had finally in mind was its rebuilding, ills own pej scheme was u> new pulpit, and already from the summer tet-c fund they had been able- to put aside £l2 10s towards this. They now had their new ot'ga.n, which represented a year's worse, and a very good largain it xvas, xvortn feiCQ as it stood. For the building of the new church in due time ho hoped that every man and woman and bov and gttl would pub his or her hand to pocket apd give something. For while ho did not rajm to funds being raised, by entertainment for such works as schoolroom, organ, etc., he did not think that a direct church, work, such as the rebuilding of the church, should b? done from money raised tit such ways. The vicar concluded bv referring to a number of the smaller needs of tho parish, and by thanking the congregation tor their adherence to him during the year, specially referring to Alt- Goodrich. Miss Goyen. ami Airs Allan. A programme of music was given, those contributing being Air J. A. Haggitt, Aliss Kino Roberts, and Air Brkkcll. An enjoyable dunce terminated the reunion.
