HIGH SCHOOL SONG COMPETITION.

* ; A group of patriotic old High School Doys, through Mr H. Webb, offered towards the close of last year a prize of five guineas for the best school song written b ya present or former pupil of the school The judges (the rector. Messrs Herbert Webb and F. H. Campbell and Dr Fulton) nave now awarded the prize to Mr D. W. SI. Burn, M.A., of Elgin road, Mornington' for his song ',Otago High," to the time of 'The Lass of Eichmond Hill.' Both words xnd music will be given in the forthcoming number of the ' Otago High Sfehool Magazine.' The tune, of course, is well known as that of a good old English and the words are worthy of Mr Bunr's reputation. Another good song was sent in by a lady friend of the school, Miss K. Park (of Abbotsford (daughter of a former dux). Though ineligible for the prize, this was very highly commended "by the judges, and Miss Park has consented to its being also printed in the magazine. Other creditable efforts were sent in, so that altogether the old boys' generous donation has had very satisfactory results. : Indirectly, also, it is responsible for a further gift. .Mr Bland Holt (who was uiiong the old boys at the last prize-giving) r ias recenytl forwarded to the rector a spirited 'Otago High School Song' of his jwn composition, set to music by Sir Alfred Hill. The tune is stirring and singable, with a good, rousing chorus, and the Whole song is as effective as , might be expected from the names of its author and composer. tl is hoped to bring, out all three songs at a projected old boys' social to be held shortly. , ........,._.. .
