SWIMMING BATHS

TO THK EDITOR. ' j Sir, —It is- to be hoped something will ' speedily bo done to provide tepid swimming baths in Dunedin. Candidates for office speak of the necessity of swimming baths in Dunedin, and schemes ;ire. cussed, but nothing is done. True, some years ago an expensive piece of ground in the centre of the City was purchased, but having done this ouv City Council went to sleep again. There has'jugt been formulated another proposal for baths at the north and south ends of the City, and I do hope something will be done'. There are excellent municipal baths in othc centres. Even Oamaru has its bath for the citizens. Far better than to have baths in connection with our public schools would it be to create and use clean municipal baths. And the mention of schools leads me to ask to what use the school gymnasiums are put. Ten years ago parents subscribed liberally to erect gymnasiums, at the request of schoolmasters and school committees, and I am told that in many cases these large buildings are hot now" being used in connection with our schools. If that is correct, there seems to be a breach of faith somewhere.—l am, etc.. Pahknt.' April 17. " .
