The East Edinburgh election resulted in the return of Mr Gibson (Freetrader), who polled 4,527 votes to Mr Ford's (Tariff Reformer) 4,069. [The result considerably lowers the Liberal 1906 majority, when the figures were: Sir G. M'Crae (L.), 6,606; Rankin Dawson (C), 2,432. The total poll declined 442 votes. The Liberals polled 2,079 less, and the Conservative Tariff Reformer 1,637 more.]
