‘ TAP.AXAKI HERALD ’ PREMISES,

Toe literary and linotype departments escaped, being in a brick building with steel shutters over the windows and doors. It is inmyssicle to estimate the damage at present. The building was injured lor £650. The total loss to the machinery and plant (insured in the New Zealand Office) is estimated at £1,750. It is feared that the damage is irreparable. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The cilice was left apparently safe at 11.20 p.m. by the publishers of the weekly paper. A slight outbreak occurred early on Wednesday morning in the same building, when the MayOat way alarm brought the brigade before the fire h g<l any bold. eLasf night the alarm system had not been reinstated. The paper was. published as usual.
