REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the Otago Referees' Association was held last evening in Mr E. S. Wilson’s rooms, Empire Buildings. Mr W. M'Donald (president) was in the chair. There was a good attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the report (which has been published), the President said that the past season had been one of the most successful in the Association’s history. The membership (sixty-six) was a record, and though they had lost a few members, it was hoped that a good many new members would join. The high repute in which members of the Association were held outside was shown by the number who had been requested to officiate in interprovincial and the Anglo - Welsh matches. Since last year the Association had lost one of the best members they had ever had-Mr J. Williams—who was now in Auckland. The motion was seconded by Mr A. Austin and carried. Mr J. Williams was unanimously elected a life member. Mr Eyre suggested that referees should have a monogram on their sweaters to distinguish them from players or spectators, several other unions having adopted this method.—The matter was left in the hands of the Committee. It was resolved that meetings be held fortnightly, commencing on Friday next, and that the Committee consider the question of having captains of teams present at the meetings. The following office-bearers ware elected : —President, Mr H. M'Farlaae; vice-presi-dent, Mr J. Duncan ; secretary, Mr H. H. S. White; committee—Messrs C. Eyre W. M‘Donald. E. Hamel, A. Hobson auditor, Mr W. Beadle. A motion expressing sympathy with Mr W. I’. Ross, who met with an accident, and motions of thanks to the Rugby Union, members of last year’s Executive, and Mr E. S. Wilson were passed.
