SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the Forbury School Committee was held last nightpresent—Messrs A. Harvey (chairman)' R. MXittrick. J. Offen, Geo. Reid G P Stewart, P. Johnston, T. Ashton H T Trevena, and W. B. Steel. The head master reported the number on the roll as 695, and the average attendance for the four weeks a* 622. The number of pupils at the school fhat dav was 658, which represents high water mark. The secretary having tendered his resignation of his office and membership owing to his approaching departure from the district Mr George Reid moved and Mr T Ashton seconded—" That this Committee accept with regret the resignation of Mr W B Steel as clerk and member of the Forbury School Committee, and embrace this opportunity of putting on record their verv high appreciation of the good service he has, whilst clerk to the Committee, rendered to Forbury School. His efforts have been indefatigable in setting clearly before the Education Board and the Education Department the needs of the scholars and the teachers, and his efforts have been crowned with success, as teachers and scholars have, now suitable accommodation for carrying on the work of the school " lhis was carried unanimously. Mr J. Kemnitz presided over last night's meeting of the Arthur Street School Committee. The head-master reported the aver ago attendance for the past four weeks— Boys 239. girls 201 (440). The roll number was 475—219 girls and 256 boys. The matter of some neceesarv repairs needing attention was referred to" the Board. The "Visiting Committee reported having found everything satisfactory, all the classes being in good working order. The Chairman reported that the work on the new additions to the hall buildings Mould shortly be put in hand. Mr Barrett's resignation as first, assistant, after seventeen years' seAice was received wiih regret. A resolution appreciating Mr Barrett's long service was passed, and it was decided to send a copy, signed by the committeemen, to him.
