A miner named Ellis was seriously injured at Pnponga. (Nelson) by a premature explosion of dynamite.

James Lincoln, while working at a sawmill nt FLwery Creek (near Hokitika) was so ser: :!!sly injured yesterday, through being struck by a piece of iron, that very faint hopes are entertained of his recovery. Andrew Rasmussen, a deck band on the trawler Express, was taken ill on Sunday, and when the vessel arrived at Port Chalmers about seven o'clock at night Dr Hodges was summoned, and found the man suffering from an internal obstruction. He died at 1 a.m. yesterday. Heceased, who was thirty-three years of age, was married, and his home is in Dunedin. The coroner (Mr Graham) has ordered a post-mortem examination, and an inquest will be held at Port Chalmers at eleven o'clock to-morrow.

A.Carterton message states that George Burnett, who was drowned in the Wainuioru River, was swimming his horses in a deep pool, and fell off. A man named Bassott, who jumped in to the rescue, was grabbed by the deceased, who could not swim, and was nearly drowned also. The body was recovered by fishing with hooked lines.

A Wellington message states that a youth named Von Keysenberg was admitted to the hospital on Sunday suffering from a wound in the throat by a pea rifle exploding while out rabbit-shooting. The boy died, the windpipe having been cut. The father is at present in the hospital, and the mother died recently.

A Hokitika mes'sage states tliat the body of W. J. Duggan (seventy-five), an old resident of the Kanieri district, was discovered at the bottom of the Hokitika Paver, near the Transit shed, this morning. It was evidently a case of suicide, as a heavy window-weight was attached to the body. The deceased complained yesterday of severe pains, and spoke of ending his troubles. He had recently been discharged from the hospital.
