(Received December 29, at 8.25 a.m.) President Roosevelt is instituting a searching inquiry into the methods of the Chicago beef packers, with a view to prosecuting them if any violation of the Antitrust and Anti-rebate laws is detected, especially in connection with receiving rebates from the railways. WILL NOT INTERFERE. NEW YORK, December 28. President Roosevelt declines to interfere in connection with the sentence passed on the leaders of the Federation of Labor by Judge Wright at Washington while an appeal is pending.
