BOWLING TOURNAMENT.

The continuation of tin rinks matches was proceeded with'this morning on Kaituna, Valley, Dunedin, and Caledonian Gieens. After the heavy rains of last night and early morning it was thought that the greens would have been heavy. Si.ch, fortunately, proved not to be the case, the swards at ten o'clock being almost perfect. A choppy wind on Caledonian, however, for a time made play uncertain, but, notwithstanding this disadvantage, many excellent heads were played. Owing) to inability to obtain extension of leave from business, many player.* had to forego their engagements in the fifth game, and this left opposing sides with a. win by default. A game in which much interest was taken on Caledonian Green during the morning was that between Corraack (Caledonian) and Glovjr (Otago). Both teams were composed of colts, but the play all round was extremely good. A close game resulted in Cormack's team qualifying to play for green honors against the winners of the Payne-M'Laren section. At 1.30 M'Laren's (Donedin) and Payne's (Kaituna) teams met to decide the sectional (B) tie of Caledonian Green. The game fiom the start wag attractive, each player in the combination at times putting in good work. Dunedin got away with a lead, but Kaituna- soon asserted themselves, and before the seventh head had been reached were in a majority. Then some closelypacked heads occurred, and M'Laren and Payne demonstrated their anxiodsness to get in " pots." But, though they gentdown eome beautifully-played bowls, they just failed in their object. When playing the ninth head, after Thomson had put in both bowla, C. Lambourne, who had up to this stage been doing everything Payno had asked of him, wrested Thomson, and, Gale failing to dislodge, Kaituna's second put in another, the latter team then lying 3. M'Laivn called on Johnson to trail, but the jack was nicely covered by one of Lambournc's bowls, and Johnson just failed to touch it, after sending down two weMplayed shots. F. Smith, who had been getting a fine length and putting in serviceable bowk, was assisting very materially in keping down the score for Dunedin. The spectators marked their approval of the efforts of contestants by applauding. At the tenth head Dunedin had got ahead —lO-7—and at the next head when skips crossed M'Laren's side had the jack hidden, and Payne failed with his first. M'Laren put in a block to prevent Payne driving, ami the-latter could do nothing with the head, Kaituna thus increasing their score by 2. Dunedin were now holding their opponents, and Payne resorted to driving, but excepting that he succeeded in cutting out several opposing bowls, he did nothing to add to his score. With two heads to play Pavne was 7 down. Thomson threw a long head, and put his first 'bowl into the ditch. With Smith's aid Kaituna succeeded in notching 2. There was no option for Payne at the last end but to burn, but he failed with both bowls, and M'Laren won after a most interesting game, in which his men gave a first-class exhibition, leaving the skip little to do.
