'Progress' (Baldwin and Raymond, Wellington) for January contains articles on several topics of current importance. Among theoo may be mentioned ' The Christchurch Meat Company,' ' Christchurch District Drainage,' ' Employers' Liability,' and 'Wright's Aeroplane.' Electricity, architecture, motoring, engineering, and patent law j are adequately treated, while the numerous illustrations effectively help the reader. Wo have received a copy of the Sydney 'Sunday Times' Christmas number. It is made up of thirty-two pages? of interesting and amusing reading matter, including story and poem, including several cartoons and pictorial sketches. Messrs Whitoombe and Tombs send us copies of their recently-publlihed 'Maori Sketches' and 'Maori Children Sketches.' These consist of a number of large pictures 'illustrating some phase of Maori life or sport, and portraits of typical men and women. The only letterpress is that necessary for a brief indication of the meaning and content of the picture. Each is bound in white paper coveis with gilt lettering, and should be much in demand for sending to friends and relatives at Home, as well as foT one's own parlors.
