A MODEL TRAWLER.
The new steam trawler Waitangi- made a trial trip yesterday. She left the Dun edin wharf about 8 a,m. • and proceedec to the Heads. The sea was perfect foi trawling, and everything being ready, the trawl was shot.three and a-hal/miles N.E. of Otago Heads. She trawled for twe and a-half hours, all being anxious k know what the result would be. Wher the net was swung aboard it was alrnosl full of live sole, king fish, ling, moki, tera kihi, skate, red cod, crayfish, and innumerable other fish. The second trawl lasted about the same time as the first, and the contents were much the same. The total catch realised £ls. The result was very good, considering that everything was new and tbat there had been no trial till yesterday. The trawler has been fitted out and the trawl and neti made .under the direction of Captain Hargraves, with the assistance of Mate Buckingham, both of whom have acquitted themselves to the thorough satisfaction of the owners. The trawl and nets worked perfectly, everything going along without a hitch. The trawler proved herself to be a perfect model for her requirements. Some of the shareholders, who are verj old-established fishmongers of this City, were aboard and were highly satisfied with the result. They hope to place th« fishing industry on a more up-to-dat« basis, the Waitangi being a welcome addition to the present fleet, while it is hoped at no distant date to make a further addition. The management have made arrangements with Grimbsy and other fishing ports for all the latest methods and mos« recent appliances.
