ST. CLAIR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. Lost night a social was held in the St. Clair Gymnasium, arranged by the committee of the Prcebvtcrian Church to give members and residents of the district an opportunity of meeting Mr J. H. Lang, the first minister. The ladies of the congregation took in hand the work of managing all details as to the providoring, Mrs H. C. Campbell attending to the musical part of the programme, and everything was done so nicely as to make all present feel at home. There were about 100 present—a fairly representative attendance seeing that the stormy weather kept some of the elderly people at home. Mr T. J. Walker presided, and welcomed Mr Lang on behalf of the people. The task of conveying the church’s welcome was allotted to Mr J. B. Waters, chairman of the Committee. Mr Lang was assured that his ministry so far had met with hearty acceptance, and that the church deemed itself fortunate in being so well served at the outset. _ Short and appropriate addresses were given by Dr Nisbet. the Rev. J. Kilpatrick, and the Rev. W. Scorgio. the latter speaker outlining a scheme for furthering the cause at St. Clair and counselling the people to at once see about seeming a sit© for a church. Apologies, conveying mesrages of good will, were received from Dr Waddell, the Rev D. Dutton, and the Rev. J. Chisholm. Songs were sung by Mrs Curtice, Miss Walker, Mr M'Nauehton, Mr C. Rnhen, and Mr H. C. Campbell, and Miss Eileen MTCay’s violin solo proved to be a feature on the entertainment ride. Mr Durham moved a vote of thanks to the visiting ministers, and this met with hearty approval, it being felt by the friends that the Presbytery and the ministers generally are giving the young St. Clair church every possible encouragement.
