FEDERAL CAPITAL SITE

YASS-CANBERRA ENDORSED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 6. In the Federal Senate the balloting for the Federal capital site was conducted amidst a good deal of excitement. It resulted in the choice ot the Yass-Can-berra cite. The first ballot resulted in a tie for Yass and Tunrut, each securing 18 votes. This was the outcome of some secret engineering by the supporters of the Dalgety site. Knowing that a certain Victorian Senator intended to vote for Tunrut with the idea of afterwards transferring his vote to Yass they combined to vote for Tumut, eo as to produce the tie. When the result was announced the Dalgety men claimed that the question was ended, but the President insisted that each of the six sites nominated must be balloted for.

The final ballot resulted: Yas-Canberra (the site selected by the House of Representatives), 19; Tumut, 17.
