HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE. Tho High Commissioner cabled from London on October 24:Trade in all classes of mutton has been very slow and prices barely maintained. River Plato mutton is in large supply, and is quoted at 3Jd ; Canterbury mutton, 4d: North Island, 3£d. Lamb.—Tho market is firm, with a good demand for prime quality. The stocks of lamb on hand are light. Canterbury brands arc quoted at s*d; other Canterbury, sid, - Beef.—The market is steady. The stocks of New Zealand beef on hand ate light. Hindquarters ate quoted at 3ld; 'fore, quarters, sid. Butter.—The market is vary firm and there is a good demand. The shipments by the Mamari arrived in good condition, and 125s per cwt was realised. This season's make of Danish is quoted at 139s • Siberian, 121s; Australian, 121«; Argentine, 12(k; Canadian, 119s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet, with little doing, but a good feeling prevails. For forward delivery Canadian makes are quoted at fils per cwt. The hemp market is dull, with very little business doing. Good fair grade on spot is quoted at £26 ; fair grade on spot, £23; fair current Manila on spot, £34. October to December shipments are quoted as follows : —Good fair grade, £25 16s; fair grade, £23; fair current Manila, £24 per ton. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 18,000 bales. Cocksfoot has eased. 'Die market is now quiet, mid buyers are not keen to do basilicas. Bright clean 171b is quoted at 8s per cwt.
