The death is announced of Mr H. J. Hansen, who was a resident of Hokitika from 1865, and formerly proprietor of the Post Office. Hotel and Princess Theatre. Mr John Donaldson and his wife returned from Europe last week, bringing with them their daughter Ada, who wont to the Continent to study music. Miss May Donaldson’s passage was also booked, but at the last moment this young violinist won a first prize at tho Brussels Concours in competition with students from Italy, America, and other countries, and this success induced Mr' Donaldson to leave his daughter in Belgium ; for another six months, her prospects of further honors being considered very bright. Mr Harry Shrimpton, who died yesterday, was well known and trusted as a and • honorable business man. Ho took a trip to the Lakes quite recently in the hope of shaking off the effects of a chill, but pleurisy set in, then pneumonia, and at the comparatively early age of forty-one he was called away. He was born in Melbourne, and brought to Dunedin when a child. As a boy he sang in All Saints’ choir. After his schooldays he entered the service of Sievwright and Stout, and continued with that firm till the dissolution in 1887, when he followed Mr Sievwright, and thus in course of time became an employee of Sievwright and James, this business connection lasting till the early part of 1907, when he started in business for himself. Altogether Mr Shrimpton was associated with Mr A. , James for about twenty-eight years. The : deceased was an -expert ■ accountant, and possessed a wonderful amount of energy, also the .ability to , organise. ‘ He was a director of several mining and other companies, and secretary of a number of concerns, including the Forhnrv Park Land Company and tho United Starr-Bowkett Building Society, whilst he also held the position of sub-agent, of the United Insurance Company. His business as trustee grew to considerable importance, being called upon, to act in a number .of large estates. About • seventeen years - ■ ago he married Miss and to them were born five daughters and one son, the youngest still an infant. The' Stock Exchange, of which Mr Shrimpton was a member, did not sit to-day, this being resolved npon in respect to the memory qf . the deceased.
