FIRST OFFENDERS.
A BIG TOTAL. [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 24. _ The ‘ Lyttelton Times ’ this morning publishes the result of an examination of the police reports for a number of years past, showing that in the' last seven years 35,964 separate persons in New Zealand were charged with drunkenness, against whom there was no known previous conviction for this offence, the number of such last year being 5,809.
