Manuka, s.s., arrived at Port Chalmers this morning from Sydney via Cook Strait, after an absence of six months in the Vancouver service. While waiting the tide at Port Chalmers the transference of cargo to the Warrimoo, which vas berthed at the opposite side of the vharf, was prevented by the heavy rain, loth steamers came up to. town to-day. Pho Manuka lays up until resuming the return running to Sydney on Tuesday week, and the Warrimoo leaves to-morrow tor Melbourne. Daldorch, s.s., lI.S. and A. liner, left New A ork on October 15 for Australian and New Zealand ports. She is due here about the first week in January. Westralia, s.s., from Sydney via Auckland, sails from Lvttelton to-night at 7.30. It wil probably be to-morrow afternoon before she comes up to the Victoria wharf. The Manapouri and Navua, at Auckland, exchange routes this trip. The Manapouri goes to the Eastern Pacific and the Navua to Fiji. The Navua is likely to remain in the New Zealand-Fiji service for some time. Karamea, s.s., is expected to be here about a week. Invercargill, s.s., which arrived this morning with timber front Stewart Island, reported a very heavv sea outside. Several smart passages have been acromplished by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s liner Mamari. The latest one is between Wellington and London. She left Wellington on September 10, and arrived in London on Tuesday morning occupying forty days on the run Home. Rosamond, s.s., has been fixed to load coal at Westport next week for H.M.S. Pioneer at Lyttelton. Kotare, s.s., which sailed yesterday for Timaru and Lyttelton and Dunedin, will lead general cargo at the latter port for Dunedin. The statement of accounts of the Adelaide Steamship Company, Ltd., for the year ended the 30th June last discloses a net profit of £51,850, as against £49,890 for the previous twelve months. An interim dividend of 5s per share, which was distributed in March last, absorbed £25,359, and the balance to credit of profit and loss account after providing for depreciation, etc., is £29,472. The coastal steamer Kincumber was wrecked while crossing the Manning River bar. A heavy sea that was running earned the Kincumber on to the end of the breakwater. She was badly damaged, and drifted on to the beach. . , IT^') a P^ a i n Anderson and a seaman named Walm were washed* overboard and drowned, but the remainder of the crew and passengers reached shore safely in the ships boat. The 1908-09 issue of the ‘Register of Australian and New Zealand Shipping, published by the Marine Underwriters’ Association of Victoria, contains a table showing the number and tonnage of the sailing vessels and steamers registered at each port on June 30, 1908. New Zea“'nd comes first with 639 vessels of 143,558 tons, Victoria following with 376 vessels of 137,248 tons, New South Wales third with 1,087 vessels of 128,709 tons South Australia, Queensland, West Australia, and Tasmania following in order with 59,855 tons, 24,885 tons, 21,000 tons, and 17,308 tons.
