THE CULVERDEN SECTIONS
[Special to the Stae.] _ CHRISTCHURCII, June 19. Applications for sections on the Culverden Estate close to-dav, and already between 400 and 500 have come to hand. It is probable that there will be a total ofnearly 600 applicants for the twenty-five sections. Tho ballot will take place on Friday next. The applicants generallv aire of a good stamp, and they posws in the aggregate • a considerable 'sum of cnpitel. Their anxiety to get on the land as State tenants is keen, and a reporter who made some inquiries could not ascertain that there was any dissatisfaction with the short, renewable lease, which has been substituted for the lease in perpetuity. Thirlythree years look* a long time when viewed from the beginnini; of the term.
