ELEPHANT CHARGES A TRAIN.
Au extraordinary story come from Siam of an elephant charging a passenger train. When the morning train from Bangkok was near Ban Klap, says the ‘ Bangkok Times.’ an elephant walked out of the jungle on to the track. The driver sounded his whistle, but the elephant, trumpeting loudly, lowered its head and charged the oncoming train. So great was the impact that the elephant was killed on the spot and the engine derailed and badly damaged. None of the carriages, however, left the metals. The elephant’s tusks were snapped off, but when a search was made for them they could not bo found. During the excitement following the collision someone had walked off with them.
