FIRES.
RESIDENCE IN Yesterday morning a house owned and occupied by Charles Houseman, situated in Cresford street, St. Albans, was burned down. The hou-© was insured for £4OO and the furniture for £SO in the New Zealand Insurance Company. The damage is estimated at £575. DISCOVERED IN TIME. A fire broke out yesterday at Mrs Shepherd's, Gcornja street, but luckily without serious result, and the services of the brigade wre not rcq-'ir-d. Our correspondent at LawTonce writes : A fire broke out yesterday afternoon in a building in Ross pkoe, at the rear of the Kxo-lsior Painting Company's establishment, used by Mr F. A. Miller as ft carpenter's workshop and wocdwarc factory. I'ho buildicg was completely fruited, and Mr Miller in add Lion lost a tine assortment of carpentry tools and three or four m> chirrs w-'d for planing, turnery, etc. Tho Fire Brigade turned out promptly, but tho fire, although it was prevented from spreading, had too firm a hold to allow of anythins in tire building being saved. Winmill, draper, in which empty packing cases were stored, was pirtially destroyed by the fire. Tho insurance is £l6O. Tho loss is estimated at donble that amount.
