Littie South Sea is offering at £23 10.;. Rabbits are (tall of sale. In London there is a, fair trade, and in tho provinces a good demand for hares. Svdney ones are retailing at 2s 6d. GRAIN AND PRODUCE SALE. Donald Reid and Co., Ltd.. report : —We held out weekly auction 6ale of grain and produce at our* stores to-d;iy. This being an "off" day, the. attendance of buyers was not so ]jr<;e as wroal. Wo .submitted a small catalogue, most of which we quitted at satisfactory prices. Yahres ruled as under:

Oats. —'i'liere h.v; been fair inquiry from shippers during the past week, but local stocks are now so small that they have had difficulty in fulfilling their orders. The local tr.ide continues to take most of the small consignments, at prices a shade beyond shippers' limits. 'There baa ak ; o been some demand from farmers who are in want of bouse feed. We quote: Prim" milling;. 2s Id to 2s 2d ; good to best feed, 2s to 2s Id ; iaferior to medium, Is 9d to Is lid per buflhel (sacks extra). Wheat.—Prime millinj; lme.s have more attention, and are readily saleable at late quotations. In most casas holders of prime lots arc not disposed to accept ruling values. Medium quality is unchanged. Fowl wlieat is- scarce, and has good inquiry both locally and for export. We quote: Prime mltllinsr, 3s 4d to 3s 5d ; medium to good. 3s 2d to 3s 3jd : whole fowl wheat. 3s to 3s Id ; broken and damaged, 2s 9d to 2» lid per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.-—Onr catalogue contained only one lot of Auckland kidneys, for which there was poor competition at £8 per ton (bags extra). Chaff. —Tbc market has been poorly supplied with good to prime quality. Medium and inferior quality is .still offering ex *tnre, but has little' attention, tho demand being almost entirely for prime. Wo submitted, several tracks of bright oaten sheaf, which were well competed for, and Bold at an advance on late values. For otber sorts there was no change. We quote: Beit oaten sheaf, £4 5s to £4 10s ; medium to good, £3 10s to £4; light and inferior. £3 to £3 5s per ton (bags extra). Straw.—The market is more heavily supplied with both oaten and wbeaten. Oaten is slightly easier at 37s 6d, wboaten 35s per ton (pressed). THE HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. WELLINGTON", December 24. Tho Department of Industries ajid Con mcrce has received the- following cable frm the High Comir.issioner, dated London, t!, 22nd inst. : The mutton market is quiet, and smalbtsiness is doing. There is. however, ■.-. active demand for light wxxigbts at nil prices. Canterbury light weights aroquotct' at 5d and heavy at 4|d per lb. Tho average price of North Island mutton is 4T<l per lb. Australian lamb is in large, supply ;if s||d per lb. The beef market is very dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. The average prices of New Zealand hind and forequartors are 03d and 3;jd per lb respectively. Tho butter market is slightly weaker, with 3es!> demand, except for tho choicest. Some holders are forcing sales, and buyers operato with caution. Tho choicest New Zealand is quoted at Ills, Danish 122-. ami Australian at 107s per ca-t. Tho cheese market is steady, but without animation. There is fair demand for belter grades. New Zealand cheeso is quote'l at 60s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, wit-h little doing, but a good feelin!; prevails. Gool fair grade, on ibe spot, is quoted at £SB. and the January-March, shipment at £57 per ton. Fair current Manila, on tho spot is quoted at £42 por ton. Tho cocksfoot market is firm, but there is little doing. Bright 171b seed Je -quoted at 47s per cwt. Tho wool market is firm, with an upward tendency.
