MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
At tho monthly meeting , Lo > al Orange Lodge, No Surrender, W.M. Lro Froude presided, and was supported by P G.M.s Bros. Oamck and Gretg, and the W.M.s of No. 12, 22. and 34. while D.M. Bro. Phair, Bro. Williams (sec.), Lro. H. K Stevens (lreas.l. Bro. Comings (G. Chap-), and Bro. Sloan (Lodge Cnaplam) were the officers of tho evening. Ihe gathering of tho members was the largest witnessed for a number of years in Dunedin Two candidates were initiated. Bro. Findlay, No. 54, sprang a surprise by obtaining permission to present Lro. Gl-em P.G.M., with a purse of sovereigns, as a mark of the esteem and reuaiA in which he is held by the brethren and an apnreciaticu of the efficient manner in wheih ho had always carried cut his duties in connection with the Ureter in Dunedin. Bro. Grcig made a suitable reply. G. Chaplain Bro. Gumming next look charge of the floor, and stated that he had been instructed to pave the way for a further surprise, which took concrete ship bv the W.M.s of 12, 29, and 34 handing to Bro. Oreig a curved clock and barometer, which bore the inscription “ Presented to P.G.M. Bro. Grcig by the combined L.O. Ledges in Dunedin, in recognition of his past services to the institution.” Bro. Cummings said he hoped that the recipient would be long spared to look upon the face of the clock, and that time would be very kind to him in the years to come. Bro. Greig, in reply, said he hoped that the confidence now reposed in him would never be shaken, while the rift would always ho cherished by hiin. A vote of thanks to the visiting brothers was passed, and tho lodge was closed by sinking tho National Anthem.
The half-yearly meeting; of Court Robin Hood was held in , Foresters’ Hall. Port Chalnicre, bn Tuesday eVenng, C.ll. Bro. J. Lovo presiding. D.O.Ri Bro.
