MRS LANGTRY’S CLOTHES

There is probably no woman in tho world whose clothes excite more feminine curiosity than do those of Mrs Lillie Langtry. They are eagerly watched and talked about by the women of two continents, and after she makes her South American tour next year still another continent will be added to tho list. Mrs Langtry has ever enjoyed the distinction of being correctly and beautifully dressed, no matter what the occasion. It made no difference whether she was scon at a fashionable reception in London, in the box of a Paris theatre, aboard a yacht in the Mediterranean, at an English country-house lawn fete, driving in Central Park, or riding over a California ranch—Mrs Langtry’s costume was always a work of art and perfectly appropriate. It took thirty-six trunks to take Mrs Langtry’s costumes to America on her present visit. Every costume is a complete affair, from hat to shoes and stockings. Of the latter and gloves she baa a supply that would seem almost big enough to stock a shop. For instance, two big drawers in her dressing room are packed solid with silk stockings of all shades and patterns. She never wears any other stockings than silk. Another set of drawers is full of gloves—-all kinds of gloves, and for every conceivable occasion, and wrapped up in bundles of a dozen pairs each. In macintoshes Mrs Langtry has pronounced taste, and her hats are nearly, all of the broad, flat kind. They are trimmed, of course, to harmonise with the gown with which they are worn. Feathers, laces, .flowers, and fruits are all utilised lor that purpose. A custom of Mrs Langtry’s will doubtless be of interest to our Indy readers. She is very lavish in her use of sachet powder, but she dees not keep it in little hags laid carefully in the folds of her gowns, as do the majority of women. She has always adhered to one style in dressing her hear. It is always “done low,” as women term -t. “ There is no use in changing,” said Mrs Langtry. “ I notice that if I stick to one way the fashion will come around to it again every little while.”
