'THE TICKLER.'

The above is tlie name of a new publication that will be issued to-morrow. An advance copy has been handed us, and a cursory examination is surhcient to warrajit the belief that a cordial welcome will be given the first number of ' The Tickler.' It is really twenty-eight sheets, whose literary and pictorial contents are concerned with local doings and local people. The first is the work of Mr A. de R. Barclay, and the second that of Mr Stuart Reid. Each in his own sphere has established a reptrtation for fatale and telling work, and each can be relied u|>on to evoke laughter that is free from malice and character that is unmarred by- vulgarity or bad taste. The. compilers and creators have remembered .Johnson's advice " Sir, to be facotions it is not necessary to bo indecent," and whilst the public will doubtless laogh at Mr Reid's 100 caricatures and smile at Mr Barclay's rhymes and reasons, they will not be more amused and instructed than the men—-we think there aro no women—who are tho objects and cause of their merriment. 'Tho TieUter' is attractively presented in the matters of paper, printing, and get-np, and will make its initial bow under favorable auspices.
