Wellington, last nii'ht. a dividend of 4 per cent, for the half year, with a bonus of 2 per cent., was declared. The Chairman said that the result of the Chicago disclosures had been, as far as Great Britain was concerned, the complete cessation of a demand for tinned goods of anv kind. At a meeting of the Otago Mutual StarrBowkett Society last night cluster No. 327 (held by three shareholders) was drawn in » ballot for a. free loan of £SOO. At the annual meeting of the National Mutual Life Association at Melbourne yesterday, the Chairman of directors stated that the past year constituted a record for new business, annual income, and addition io the funds. Tlie increased business came mainly from Australia and New Zealand. The Association had obtained a smaller ratio of cost to resnlt than in any previous year.
