PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Council was attended yesterday evening by . Crs Edgar (in the chair), Cable, M'Pherson, Barker, Mawson, M'Donakl, and Shanks. Apologies were received from the mayor, Crs Brandhani and Morgan.

—Correspondence.—

The Secretary of the Municipal Association torwarded a circular re the superannuation scheme.—Received, and referred to tho iinance Committee to report. Intimation was received from the Commissioner of Police, informing! the Council that the matter for additional police protection was receiving favorable consideration. The Secretary of the Acclimatisation Society acknowledged the Council's letter, and in reply stated that their manager, Mr Deans would examine the reservoir as to the state and condition of the perch. Mr F. Kettle, secretary of the Dock Trust, forwarded a copy of the resolution adopted by the Trust at, their meeting on the jiCih inst. in connection with the cessation of work at the new dock.—Received.

Mr B. a. Allen, iLH.R., wrote forwarding the following communication from the Hon. W. Hall-Jones, Minister of Public Works, in response to the Council's application for a Government grant of £2OO for the purpose of completing the Port Chal-mers-Peninsula Beach road:—"l have to point out that the many urgent needs of the back-block settlers must receive first consideration; and in view of this I regret to have to say that I shall be unable to make provision on this year's Eetimates for a grant for the road.referred to." \ —Reports.—

The Finance Committee reported that the receipts since last meeting amounted to £B3 13s 2d, and recommended that accounts amounting to £lOl 7s 9d be passed for payment.—Adopted.

The Works Committee reported that since the last meeting the carting -of stone to Wickliffe terrace, between Berrikia and Mirj streets, had. teen Altogether

107 yds had been spread and broken. Other matters, had received attention.
