(Received August 24, at 7.35 a.m.) Advices from Valpariso state that the first ehock lasted four and a-half minutes, and the second two minutes. Between two thousand and three thousand persons were lolled. The fires are still raging. Several islets have appeared in the bay. Sixty thousand persons arc homeless. COMMUNICATION RESTORED. VALPARAISO, August 23. (Received August 24. at 8.51 a.m.) The telegraphs and telephones between Valparaiso and Santiago are restored. SHOCKS ELSEWHERE. I/ONDON, August 23. Earthquake shocks have been experienced in the Calabria district (Southern Italy) and in Silesia (in the south-eastern part of Germany).
