CASUALTIES.
A ratal accident occurred ,at Tuapeka on the 18th inst., when Frances Lilian Lulfin, aged twenty-seven, years, the daughler.of Jonn Bulfin (farmer), received injuries which resulted in her death on Wednesday last. The deceased and two sisters were returning in a gag from a surprise party when the hor;e swerved, and the wheels of the trap getting into a rut, the girls were all thrown out and injured more or less. The deceased was doubled up by her fall, hut ahe managed to walk home. Two medical men were called iu, and it was found that she was suffering from internal injuries which caused .'her death on the date mentioned. A telegram from Hokitika states that Thomas Burns (of Kanieri), a colonist of fifty years’ standing, died suddenly this morning while at breakfast. He was eixtybovon years of ago. A Blenheim menage slates that at the inquest on Peter Collins, who was found drowned in the Wairua River last Tuesday, an open verdict was returned that there was no evidence to show how deceased got into the river. AUCKLAND, August 24. A child thirteen months old, the daughter of Mr R. H. Ridings, of Devonport, died as the result of scalds sustained on its face by the capsizing of a teapot on the table. The mother was in the room and remedies were promptly applied, but without avail. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.
