ARBITRATION COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH, August 24. At tho Arbitration Court to-day Judge Chapman dismissed a complaint against a laundry company of employing a nonunionist engine-driver while unioniste wore unemployed Tho defence was that tho employment book was kept irregularly, and that there was insufficient information given in it for the purposes of tho Act. Thos. Boyd, cycle maker, was fined £5 for under-paying certain employees; W: Goss was fined £5 for under-paying a young man was had been receiving 30s instead of £2 2s. There were special circumstances in tho case, and His Honor said that Goss had not studied the award. Tho Christchurch Tramway Board were fined £5 for employing a" striker at 7s a day, instead of at 7s 4d. The Board said the breach was unintentional Ernest Buxton, butcher, was fined £5 for employing two apprentices to one journeyman, a greater proportion than the award permitted.
