Though i ha London County Council havef had a very unfortunate experience in their endeavor to caber for the-passenger traffic on the Thames, they achieved one good stroke of business that they arc not likely to repeat.- Insurances are now being placed with Lloyd's on the Council's little fleet of^hirty-steamers, on winch the total amount covered is £180,000; in- other words, £6,000 per boat. ; The underwriters were quite willmg 'last season to'cover the vessels at 55s per cent, for the year, and, indeed, they thought that they had made a very good bargain. As a matter of fact, a collision of one sort and another occurred almost weekly throughout the year, and claim after claim was made, till the underwriters_found themselves several thousands out of pocket This year not one has been found willing to take the insurance iof the boats; Ven at doable last year’s " rates.
