(Received August 6, at 8.37 a.m.) The police evicted the Pla'stow land grabbers after some flight resistance. Another gang reoccupied. the plot. The bulk of the increase of £60,000 in the wages of the Royal dockyard's employees goes towards placing the >-hipwnqhtson an equality with the men employed m private shipbuilding yards. "AN UNJUST~AWARD." At a meeting of the Auckland Saddlers' Union the decision of the Court of Arbitration in that trade was discussed. Several speakers expressed indignation at the award and declared that the evidence given by all the union witnesses and by a majority of witnesses for the employers in favor of an increase of wages had been totally ignored. The following resolution was unanimously carried:—" That this union enter then- most emphatic protest against against the unjust award that has recently been made by tho Court of Arbitration on the grounds—<l) That it was altogether against the evidence of a majority of the employers; (2) that the Court.apparently set aside,, all evidence, even that of the New Zealand Government 'Official Year Book,' respecting the imports; (3) that the award was framed independent of all evidence on the part of employees; (4) that the Court apparently have set their face against the just claims of the workers, ignored all their capable witnesses, disregarded even those clauses practically agreed upon, and made an award which proves the absolute futility of expecting the present Court to make an award based on common sense and justice."
