Dr M'Ara, of Gore, at one time very well known in Dunedin football circles, left here yesterday for a two-months' sojourn in the North for recuperative purposes. Mr T. Dunn, of the Ashburton 'Mail' and 'Guardian,' has bsen appointed assist-ant'sub-editor on the Christchurch ' Press.' A Wellington message says that Mr Riddell, S.M., of Dunedin, is to act as stipendiary magistrate at Wellington during the time Dr M'Arthur, 8.M., is acting as chairman Of the Royal Commission set up to inquire into the fires of wool cargoes on shipboard. Mr K. Douglas, of Hastings, has been appointed secretary of the Jtiastirgs Di-trict A. aUd P. Society, vice Mr J. H. Munro, resigned. A Wellington telegram says: "a he dentil of Mr George Martin, one of the oldest employees in the Post and Telegraph Department in New Zealand, is announced. A Feilding message says:—Mr Fred Pirani, one of the proprietors of the Feilding 'Star,' was presented with a purse of sovereigns at Palmerston North yesterday in recognition of his services to the district.
