AUCKLAND v. OTAGO

The first intcrprovincial hockey match played between representative teams of Auckland and Otago took place at the Caledonian Ground this afternoon. Some 700 persons were on the ground at 1.30, when the match began. The teams were represented as follows:

Auckland.—Goal, W. R. Bloomfield; fullbacks—H. D. Hill and R. Anderson; halves —C. R. Crispe, D. K. Porter (captain), V. C. Kavanagh; forwards—J. Jessup, R. B. Young, F. R. Mason, W. Lepine, J. Lepine. Otago.—Goal, N. White; backs—E. Ackroyd and Hobey; halves—G. G. Austin, H. Goodman, J. Moore; forwards—J. Hobbs, R, Sise, B. Midgeley, T. Cuttle, Rutherford ; emergencies—back, Purchas ; half, Cowie; forwards—Madill, Siedeberg, and Begg. J. C. K. Sibbald controlled the game. Midgeley beat Mason for bully. Cri.-p placed the ball well to W. Lepmc, and Mason following up, Lepine placed it to him, but he was not up fast enough. The ball was soon taken back to the Otago line, and Young (inside left) scored a nice goal for Auckland. I—o. This led to a counter-demonstration by Otago. and the ball was taken uo into Auckland's circle, where Cuttle shot a fine goal. I—l. Otago continued to press hotlv. and the Auckland pcal-keener had a pood deal of work to do. From a roll in Otago's twenty-five the ball was taken into Otago's circle, and J. Lepine shot an easv goal.
