OAMARU, August 4. There have been some inquiries for wheat during the week, but as farmers want an advance on current rates, only a small amount of business has resulted. Tuscan and redchaff are in particular request, but there are few samples offering, holders being content to await the higher rates that they anticipate being given before long. Sales have been limited to small lots. For a small parcel of Tuscan not up to prime standard 3s 6d net, delivered at Oamaru, was given. Both velvet and redchaff have been taken in lots up to 200 bags or so at 3s 4d and 3s 5d on trucks at country stations. A parcel of mixed Tuscan and velvet seconds wheat was taken at 3s, delivered in Oamaru. There has been a little more business doing in oats, several lines having been taken on North Island account at from 2s 3d to 2s f.o.b., for Gartons. For a farmer's holding of about 700 sa,cks of Gartons, 2s at a country station was given, but a halfpenny net more has been conceded for several small lots, while 2s 3d net, delivered in Oamaru, was paid for a parcel of black winter oats. A small line of discolored barley was taken for seed purposes at 3s 6d at a country station. There is a good inquiry for all descriptions of potatoes, and the market is firm at an advance on last week's quotations.
