A FATAL KICK.

Mr Graham (district coroner) held an inquest at the hospital this afternoon 6n the body of John David Wilson, who was kicked by a horse on Tuesday last, and who died at the hospital last evening. Mr J. T. Grant was chosen foreman of the jury of six. Alfred Alex. Wilson (fireman) "said that deceased was his brother. Deceased was a carter, residing at Melville street. At the time of the accident deceased was at the stables in Maclaggan street, and was giving a horse a drench. The horse suddenly lashed out and kicked him in tne stomach. Deceased did not lie down. He complained of pain, and wanted to go homo, but witness took liirrt to tlie hospital in a trap. He walked from tho gate to the hospital bed. Witness could assign no reason for the horse kicking. He was standing alongside deceased when the accident occurred. The '•drench" inight have irritated tho horse.

John MacSwecney (laborer), who was also present when 'the accident occurred, gave evidence agreeing with that of deceased's brother.

Dr Falconer (house surgeon) stated that deceased was admitted to the hospital about 1.45 p.m. on Tuesday. He complained of having received a kick in the stoniaeh from a horse. Dr Closs examined him subsequent to his own examination. On August 2 septic peritonitis had developed, necessitating an operation, which was performed by Dr Closs. It was found that the injury to the intestine had caused inflammation and sloughing of the intestine. He died at 4.50 on the same day, the cause of death being septic peritonitis. The jury returned a verdict that death was due to septic peritonitis, the result of a lack accidentally received from a horse. Deceased was a married man.
