AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Otago Centre of , ; tbc N.Z. A.AA. was held last evening, the ■; president (Mr S. Jacobs) occupying the chair. Mr J. E. Green secretary of the Council - of the N.Z.A. A. A., wrote pointing out that Recording to the official programme the enfees appeared to, total £3l 10s, but only £3O 10a was shown on the balance-sheet. — (The B.aldutha Harriers nominated. Mr A. Melville as their delegate.—The Secretary of the Council intimated that permission bad been granted to the Dunedin Harriers to run the Port Chalmers road race without charging a license fee. The non-forwarding Mr Macdonald’s enp and badge had been an oversight.—Mr R. G. Anderson wrote staling that the Civil Service Club expected to raise 50s or £2 towards the expenses of a Iravellitig representative, and doubtless his Committee would donate an amount equal ■ to that given by other clubs.—The correspondence was received.—-Consideration ofalterations to the balance-sheet of the New Zealand championship meeting on March 3 was deferred till next meeting. Mr A. Maryatt, reporting on behalf of the sub-committeo for the organisation of dubs in the provincial towns, said that it was anticipated that a club would be formed fit Milton at an early dale, and that their prospects at Palmerston and Lawrence, were good. He ashed as many members as might find it convenient to accompany the officials when they visited the country 1 owns to form clubs. An opportunity to do this at Milton would occur as soon as Milion were able to get fifteen members. At a later stage Mr Maryatt drew attention to the fact that gates bad been left open on Mr Gow’s property at the Taieri on a recent Saturday. Through this cattle had wandered on to the railway line, and unless they exercised care in this matter they would be blocked from holding their runs a t the Taieri and everywhere else.—lt was decided that inquiry into the matter should' he made. The Chairman then presented the banner for the inter-club cross-country championship teams race to the Dunedin Harriers, who won the event in 1905. In doing no he said that in the competing teams there were six representatives from each club, and there had been ten dub contingents in the event, so that he could fairly congratulate the Dunedin Harriers on their win. It had been the intention of the Centre to present the banner earlier, but it was only after they had achieved a financial success over the championship meeting that they had been able to get the banner made and paid forMr M. Johnson, vice-president of the Dunedin Harriers, responded. Speaking with knowledge of the club from their earliest davs, he wished to say that their policy had always ben not only to foster harrierism, but racing also. The banner had been won by representatives who had previously shown as individuals that they were fit to be included in the No. 1 team. Next year the best team must win, of course, and he t-onld only hope that the next contest would • be marked by keenness at least equal to that r»f the previous one. 1
