OrAGO LEAGUE'S PROTEST. The following letter has been forwarded by Air Peter Barr, secretary of the Otago League, to the Premier:— Sir, —I have the honor to inform you that at the last meeting of the Executive Committee of tliis League I was "instructed to forward for your information the following resolution, which was unanimously adopted, viz:—"That this Committeo view -with very great dissatisfaction the division of the co-operative "workers engaged in railway extension -works throughout the colony, and desire to draw the attention of the Premier to the improper distribution, as shown by the report of tho Public Works Department for the month of May. While on the North Island Main Trunkalonc 2,168 men and on tho West Coast lines <of this island 1,517 men were engaged, the total nambnr employed in Otago and Southland was 507. Considering the great development of industrial, agricultural, mining, and pastoral interests which must immediately follow * rigOTOTis prosecution of the Ofago and Southland lines, as compared with tbe West. Coast lines referred to, and that the extensions necessary to brings this about are neither long nor expensive if carried out by economical methods, the League aak the Minister to give the matter his immediate attention, so that a. more equitable distri bntion of labor"may be at once made, am eatisfacbory progress secured." -
