THE PREMIER IN OTAGO.

The Hon. W. Hall-Jones, Premier, came to Dunedin by the first express yesterday afternoon, accompanied by his private secretaries, Mr G. C. Scbjnidt and Mr F. G. Matthews, and was met by the Hon. W. M. Bolt, the Hon. H. Gburley, Messrs J. A. Millar, J. F. Arnold, .A R. Barclay, T. K. Sidev, Mr G. Lawrence (mayor), and Mr R. W. Richards (town clerk). Shortly after reaching the Grand Hotel the Premier received a deputation on the subject of the Maternity Home, and later in the evening he had a private conference with representatives of the Union Steam Ship Company and the Huddart-Parker Company subject of passenger fares between Australia and New Zealand during the Exhibition. The result of this conference is not made public just yet. This morning the Premier inspected the Fever Hospital site at Logan's Point, being aceonrpanied by Dr Ogstorn (Distriot Health Officer), Mr J.'A. Millar. Mr J. F. Arnold, and Mt P. MUler, Dr Batchelor, and Mr W. Wills (the Sub-committee of the Hospital Board). The Premier, after looking over the site, said that personally he saw only two objections to the site—firstly, the noise oi firing at the rifle butts and the rumbling caused by the work at the quarry; secondly, the fact that the presence of a fever hospital might depreciate the vaflue of the surrounding property, amongst which was an area of 100 acres owned by the Government. The matter had been before the Cabinet, and he would bring it up for reconsideration. The Premier then drove along the foreshore, accompanied by the Hon, H. Gourley and Messrs Mftliar and Arnold, who pointed out the way the railway station, cot off a portion of the Orty. The next visffifc was to the Rosryn tram Ene. The extension is completed, and will be officially inspected to-morrow, and the Minister wished to see the work himself. Denotations were then received at the Grand Hotel.

The last of the deputations was from the i riendry societies. Thii? was in private. _ After hmch the Premier went for a motor ride to "The Camp" on tbe Peninsula to see what has been and is being done there by the Works Department. Further interviews, some of a private and some of a semi-private character, were to follow has return, beginning at 5 p.m. The Premier is to leave for the North by the Bin train to-morrow.
