M.Dreyfus -was invested "with tiecbevahera cross of the Legion of Honor in the artillery yard at the Military Academy, Paris, in the presence of two batteries, a regiment of artillery, and two squadrons of cuirassiers. He received a great reception in the streets. Dreyfus had a serious heart aejynre aftei the ceremony, but recovered. [lt was on the 6th January, 1895, that Captain Dreyfus, who had previously been found guilty of having procured secret documents relating to the national defence {<jt a foreign Power and sentenced to transportation and perpetual imprisonment, was publicly degraded at the Ecol© MOHaire. His buttons were cut off, his epaulets torn from his shoulders, and his. sword broken in the presence of his former comrades and men and amid the hostile demonstrations of the mob.]
