MINING NEWS.

The Olrig dredge has been closed down to allow of her being changed from a steam power to a water power machine, in accordance with the scheme for which the capital was recently increased. There was no wash-up last week on the Chicago dredge, which has had a lot- of silt to contend with, as well as having been handicapped by a- shortage in the coal snpply. It is expected that the Riley's Beach dredge will reach her own claim (to which she has been working through the Punt Company's ground) in about four days after work is resumed, the dredge being at present stopped pending the arrival of new flanges for the tumbler. The Garden Gully dredge resumed work on Thursday. THE SHARE MARKET. ITONKDIN EXCHANGE. This morning's sales : —Golden Bed, 13/6. Quotations : Alpine No. 2—Buy 1/6, sel 4/. There has been a fair drop in the Molyneux height since Saturday, and with a

I continuance of the "liard frost now prevailing on the, goldfields - the week begins with brighter prospects. A firming in prices all round is not to be expectedstraight. away however, and no visible movement in that direction has- so fat been made on the market. Margins are perhaps not quite so wide as before, A rapprochenjnt in. Golden Bod shares took ~place on Saturday, culminating in an exchange at this morning's call, a holder gmng way and quitting at buyers' quotations. Others, however,- stood out for Is better. Considering that the Golden Bed dredge is, working iu a corner of the cut, and - thus wasting much more time than would otherwise be the case, the return reported is by no means discouraging. In West Coast concerns inquiry is being -roade-for Pactolus, New Trafalgar iNo Town Creeks, and Bigneil's No Town! the market showing signs of a little more activity in all.
