BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The monthly meeting of the High School Board of Governors was held yesterday .afternoon; present—Mr J. R. Sinclair (chairman), the Hon. T. Fergus, Messrs T. Mackenzie, M.H.R., and J. M. Callaway. The bank book showed a debit of £1,094 17s 3d to No* 1 account, a credit of £1,021 6s to No. 4 account, cash in hand £2 10s sd, outstanding cheques £576 8s 7d, the total debit being £647 9a SVL The amount at credit to sinking fund was £145 19s 2d. A telegram was received from the In-spector-General of Schools intimating that the Board might borrow the. money required to pay oil their debentures under the powers conferred by section 12 of the High Schools Reserves Act, 1880. This would not require fresh legisltaion.—lt was resolved that in the event of further delay the Board's solicitors bo instructed to draft a local Bill. A letter from the Seeretary of Education notifying that free tickets under the regulations of the Railway Department would bo available till the end of 1906 was received. The Inspector-General wrote:—ln reply to your memorandum of 28th April, 1906", on the subject of the Civil Service junior examination regulations, as amended by Order-in-Council of February 27, 1906, I have to say that- as the alterations were almost all in the direction of giving greater liberty, there does not appear to be a.nv reason why they should not have come into force at once. The case of the definition of heat and light is, however, an exception to the above statement, and accordingly it has been arranged that at the next examination, in December, 1906, it will be possiblo for a candidate to obtain full marks in the subject by answering questions in heat only."—Received: lector and ladv principal to be notified.
