PORT CHALMERS EIRE BRIGADE.

A ful! muster of the 'brigade took place last evening, under Captain Smith. The Borough Council were represented by Crs G. Edgar (acting mayor), Cable, M'Phereon, Mawson, and Brandhaan. After inspecting the whole of the plant, which was in most perfect order, awl also the uniforms and equipments, .. The Acting Mayor said be had great pleasure in being piesent at the annual inspection of the brigade. The plant was in most perfect order, and reflected great cxedit upon Captain Smith and the brigade's officers and members, fie was pleased at the competition which was held a few months back, and would like to see it an annual one. On behalf of the Council he tendered their thanks to the brigade. Cr Cable aliio, complimented the brigade on the way the plant was kept. They must not overlook the fact that not only the Council but the ratepayers knew they had an efficient brigade, ready at all times when their services should be required. He was present at the competition for medals, and considering the state of the weather that afternoon the attendance was much larger than he had expected. There had bren very few fires in the Port during the past twelvp months, during which period the Council had granted them 500 ft of new hose.
