In connection with the death of Mr T. Hay Mackenzie, station-master at Westport, the ' News' states that deceased went down. the crane whaif in connection with railway matters, and just after going up the steps on & the wharf suddenly collapsed. Death was due to heart failure, hastened probably by a severe illness through which deceased had passed some little time back, and from which be had never recovered. Deceased, who was a native of Scotland, Was for a time in commercial life in Oamaru (Otago), and entered the railway service in 1875 under the iProvincial Government of Otago. He occupied various positions in the traffic dearrangement with v the Provincial Government. Shortly before the Government took over the Waimea Company's railway Mr Mackenzie returned to the Government's service at Waitahuna. From this place he was transferred to Stirling, and then to the Bluff, and nine years back was appointed station-master in charge at Westport, a position he filled with eminent satisfaction up to the day of his death.
